Bridgeport Annual Chamber Banquet set for Monday Lani Rahm, executive director of Lake Chelan Chamber to be guest speaker The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual banquet Monday, December 7 at the Quad City Eagles Lodge. Enteriainment begins at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Lee and Joan Hanford will be recognized as 1998 Citizens of the Year. Lani Rahm, executive director of the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce, will be the guest speaker. Billie Monroe will be installed as 1999 president; Dorthee Thaut has been elected as the vice- president, Sherilyn Jacobson is the secretary for 1999 and Adine Knopp is the treasurer. The menu will include grilled halibut and prime rib and will be cooked and served by Legion members and staff. Entertainment will be provided by the Old-Time Fiddlers from Waterville. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased at'Bridgeport Ipranches of Coulee Dam Credit Union and Washington Trust Bank, as well as the Bridgeport office of the Douglas County PUD. Memory Tree in hospital lobby Handcrafted ornaments are being hung on the Tree of Lights in the lobby of the Okanogan-Douglas District Hospital, where theofficial lighting will be Sunday, December 13. at 3 o'clock, along with music and refreshments. A special program for the public will feature selections from the Christmas cantata O Come Let Us Adore Him, with Judy Swanberg directing the Calvary Baptist Church choir. The singers will also lead group caroling. Holiday refreshments will be served by the sponsoring Hospital Guild and the hospital. The memory of loved ones and special friends may be honored by name on the ornaments by submitting a donation with the names to Guild president Rebekah Farrington or another of the receptionists in the hospital lobby, or any of the guild members. Those wishing to pay tribute are invited to submit the names early so they will be displayed before the lighting event. Memorial contributions will go toward two projects voted by the Guild- -providing a pediatric croup tent and converting a former delivery room into an outpatient procedures facility. Assisting Farrington with the Tree of Lights are Lois Walsh and Melinda Carrieri. Brewster merchants offering prizes for shoppers Shoppers in Brewsler have a chance to win an early Christmas present, courtesy of several merchants and the Brewster Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber and the merchants are sponsoring "The 12 Days of Christmas," where one person per day will win a prize from a participating merchant. Winners will be drawn each day between December 12 and 24. People who buy merchandise from the participating businesses will receive a "courtesy ticket." The daily winners will be drawn from among the courtesy ticket holders. They will be available beginning Monday, December 7. The winners will be announced each day during the Second Cup of Coffee program on KOZI Radio. A grand prize will be drawn Thursday, December 24. Participating merchants include Brewster Drug and True Value Hardware, Webster Furniture, Brewster Chiropractic Center, Pratt Insurance Agency, the Quad City Herald, Brewster IGA-Plus, Elliot's Flowers, Jordan Insurance Agency and Grover's Building Supply. KUC youth choir to present Christmas concert Kicks Under Construction youth choir will present a Christmas concert Wednesday evening, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1540 Columbia Avenue in Bridgeport. The choir, consisting of 50-plus local children, will present a program of Christmas and devotional songs. Members of the junior high and high school youth group will act as the hosts and will lead some of the songs. For those who wish,a"loveoffering" will be taken to help support the youth ministries, said Shah Miller, choir director. The public is invited. Royalty application deadline December 11 High school sophomore and junior girls in the Quad (ity area who want to enter the 1999 Columbia River Royalty contest must submit their applications by next Friday, December 11. Girls who are interested in participating can contact Lynn Ann DeJarnett in Bridgeport or Lisa Cutuli in Brewster. One representative from Brewster, Bridgeport, Pateros and Mansfield are selected; the girls attend community events and parades. Each town's representative receives a $500 scholarship; one girl, the overall winner, receives an additional $500 scholarship. II is open to high school sophomores and juniors only. Pageant committee members are soliciting volunteers to assist in presenting the pageant.join the committee, or both. People who want to volunteer can contact DeJarnelt in Bridgeport. SCORE offers business counseling The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) will be providing "free" business counseling "by appointment',at the Omak Chamber of Commerce, located at 401 Omak Avenue. SCORE is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Small Business Administration to provide business counseling to potential and existing business owners/operators. SCORE se,ices are free and strict lyconfidential.. Persons interested in meeting with a SCORE counselor about business problems or starting a business may call the Omak Chamber of Commerce for an appointment. SCORE is an Equal Opportunity Program without regard to race, color, religion, sex, martial status, national origin or handicap. Special arrangements for the handicapped will be made, if requested in advance. Lola Power to speak on trip to Greece The December 3, 1998 meeting of the Okanogan County Genealogical Society will feature Lola Power telling about her recent trip to Greece. She will accompany her talk with pictures of the many places she visited. At this meeting will also be the annual silent auctionofholiday goodies and assorted gift items. There will also be a book drawing. The meeting will begin with the computer users group which is a sharing of internet sources for genealogical research.The organization has the Family Tree Maker program available for use at the Research Center along with World Family Tree CD's 1-17. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Wilson Research Center in Okanogan.
