H~.mld JohnCleVeland II QCH sportswriter (509) 689-2507 Tee Time By Ruth Colfins It was a very cool day for golfing on Thursday, May 17= but the didn't seem to stop Gall Benders' hot putter. Way to go Gail! Play for the day was Front Nine less Half Handi- cap and the first round of Pateros' Blackburn and Bridgeport's Henderson qualify for state in four events each Bridgeport, Pateros and Mansfield track ath- letes provided the crowd at the District B Track Meet at Eastmont High School with a lot of thrills and heartbreak. Danni Blackburn led Pateros with victories in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, pole vault and was part of the winning 1600-meter relay team. Hailey Henderson led Bridgeport with a first- place finish in the 200 meters and qualified for state with second-place finishes in the 100meters, high jump and was part of the 400-meter relay team. The heartbreak came from Mansfield's Britt Bomar after tripping over a hurdle in the 100- meter hurdles. She was leading the race and recovered in time to finish sixth, but only the top two finishers qualified for state. Pateros' Amanda Carlson might have had the most exciting finish at the district meet when she outkicked Camille Gibb, Kittitas, in the 800 meters to win by a lean at the finish line. Carlson had already won the 1600 meters and she was leading the 800 meters until the last turn. Gibb passed Carlson and took the lead but Carlson turned it up a notch to get even with Gibb with about 50-meters left. Carlson and Gibb headed to the finish line even but Carlson got the lean for first place. The top two girls and the top three boys quali- fied for the State 2A/1A/B Track Meet held at Eastern Washington University this Friday and Saturday. Bridgeport's other state qualifiers are: Daniel Lopez, pole vault, Vicente Mendez, discus, Vic- tor Sanchez, 110-meter hurdles Leonel Cerda, 400 meters, Avery Chedester, pole vault, boys 400-meter relay, boys 1600-meter relay, girls 400-meter relay. Pateros' other state qualifiers are: girls 1600- meter relay, Ashley Armstrong, 400 meters, Ilya Ivanov, pole vault and 300-meter hurdles, Will- iam Keene, 3200 meters. Mansfield's state qualifiers are: girls 800-meter relay, Miles Magnuson, shot put.
