Pateros gets a second and thircI in Kittitas meet The Pateros boys and girls track teams did a great job at the Thorp- Kittitas Invitational track meet last Saturday afternoon at Ellensburg. The Pateros boys finished in sec- ond place and the girls were third. Nate Carlson came through with wins in both the 1600 meters and 800 meters and the boys 1600 relay also won. Jason Clevenger took second in the 100 meters and 200 meters, Shane Scroggie has shown fast improvement in the 300 hurdles and finished second along with the boys 400 relay. The girls were led by wins from Andrea Johnson in the 400 meters and the girls 1600 relay. Kelly Allen finished second in the 1600 meters and Annie Neuneker also was second in the 800 meters. The Brewster Lady Bears struggled last week and started out with a split in a doubleheader with Chelan on May 5 and lost both sides against Okanogan on Thursday. Brewster suffered an opening game loss on an error in the bottom of the seventh to give Chelan the 13-12 win. Chelan was up 6-4 in the third but Brewster rallied for five runs in the fourth to go up 9-6. The Goats scored six runs in the fifth and Brewster tied it with three in the sixth. Chelan scored one run in the bottom of the seventh for the win. "If we would have had a couple more hits here and there we could have won that game," said Miller. "We left the bases loaded in the third inning." Lareasa Bowman was 3-4 with a double and one RBI, Brandy Kennell went 3-4 with a home run and one RBI, Megan Gering was 3-4 with a double, Genea Flynn was 2-4 with three RBIs, Elizabeth Rios was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs, Debbie Knowlton was 2-4 with two RBIs, Amber Vandelac and Brenda Rubio were both 1-4. Brewster scored five runs in the third and put the game away with six in the fifth and three in the sixth. "When we play with none, or rela- tively few, errors we win games," said Miller. Rios was 3-5 with a triple, Kennell went 3-5 with one RBI, Bowman was 2-5 with one RBI, Ashleigh the final two innings. "We had. mistakes again but Okanogan just flat hit the bail," said Miller. Bowman was a perfect 4-4, Rios was 3-4, Rubio was 2-2 with a double, Kennell was 14 with a double, Flynn went 14 with a triple and two RBIs, Gering and Vandelac were both 1-3. Gun safety weekend planned North Cascades Sportsmen's Club will sponsor a weekend devoted to gun safety and proper handling, marksman- ship and shooting sports in midJune. The two days of instruction and practice will be Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14. It will feature instruc- tion in firearm safety and precision shooting with pistols, rifles and shot- guns. Rifle and shotgun shooting prac- tice, supervised by volunteer instruc- tors, is scheduled for Sunday.
