Secretary to the Board Robert E. Allen Pub. April 16, 1998 Conservation reserve program waiver granted for Douglas County. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Douglas County announced to- day the approval of a waiver to exceed the 25% cropland limita- tion, which will allow additional acreage to be accepted into the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The 16th sign-up of the CRP was held last October and NoVember. Results of the sign-up were announced in January of this year. The national cutoff for accepted offers were those with Environmental Benefits and Cost points of 247 or more. By law, only 25% of a county's cropland could be enrolled into the CRP (139,969 acres in Dou- glas County). Any acreage above that would only be accepted for enrollment if a waiver was re- quested by the Local County FSA Committee, concurred to by the State FSA Committee, and approved by the National FSA office. This request had to be substantiated by a producer/ag-business survey, sup- porting the program, ensuring no economic hardship would develop in the county. The US Secretary of Agriculture also considered environmental issues. Due to this waiver approval, all eligible offers from CRP sign-up No. 16 in Douglas County will be approved (this will encompass 186,278 acres). Producer's offers which were awaiting the waiver approval will be notified if addi- tional information is required for their contracts. Any questions re- garding this information should be directed to the Douglas Cot:uly [;'SA office in Waterville.
