This is due to: excessive speculation on the part of some (how many angels could stand on the head of a pin), the worship of angels on the part of some so-called "christian" religions, and our modern age of science shys away from the supernatural. I. What are Angels? They are created beings, less than God but more than man. 2. There are various kinds of Angels! There are Seraphims (Isa 6:2) that are 6-winged. Cherubims (Ez. 10:19-21) that are 4-winged and 4-faced. (Satan is of this class of Angel - Ez 28:14-16). There are Angels proper. These are always portrayed as a young male, and there is possibly a forth classification called "Sons of God" (Gen: 6:2-5; Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:3- 7). 3. There are various ranks of Angels! Satan was the highest created being (Ez. 28:12-14). Michael named the Archangel and one of the Chief Princes (Jude 9; Dan 10:13). And there are Satanic Princes that hinder God's work (Dan 10:13; Eph6:12). 4. The various works of Angels. To be sure, the subject cannot be completely covered but here is a brief outline. Angels are involved in caring for the righteous at death (LK:16:22; Jude 9). They're involved in answered prayer (Dan, 9). They minister to the saved (Heb. 1:14). They worship God (Rev. 5:11,12). They were present at the creation of the earth (Job 38:7), the giving of the law (Acts 7:53), the birth of Christ (Luke 2:9), and will accompany Christ at his return (11 Thess. 2:7,8), and will pour out judgements upon the earth (Rev. 16:3,4).
